About GATE

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is one of India's most prestigious national-level entrance examinations conducted jointly by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB-GATE), Ministry of Education, Government of India. GATE is conducted for admission to M.Tech, M.E., MS, M.Arch, PhD, and other postgraduate programs offered by IITs, IISc, NITs, IIITs, GFTIs, and several leading universities across India. Apart from postgraduate admissions, GATE scores are also accepted by many Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) for recruitment to engineering and technical positions. Organizations such as ONGC, NTPC, IOCL, GAIL, BHEL, HPCL, BPCL, Power Grid Corporation of India, NHPC, and NPCIL regularly use GATE scores during their recruitment process. The GATE examination evaluates candidates on General Aptitude, Engineering Mathematics, and subject-specific technical knowledge. The exam is conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode and consists of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Multiple Select Questions (MSQs), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions. It is designed to assess conceptual understanding, analytical ability, problem-solving skills, and technical expertise in various engineering, technology, architecture, science, humanities, and commerce disciplines. Candidates who have completed or are pursuing the third year or higher of an undergraduate degree, or who have already completed a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, or related disciplines, are eligible to appear for the GATE examination as per the latest eligibility criteria. A good GATE score enables candidates to secure admission to premier institutes such as IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Roorkee, IISc Bengaluru, NIT Trichy, NIT Surathkal, IIIT Hyderabad, and many other reputed institutions. It also opens opportunities for higher education abroad, research fellowships, scholarships, PSU recruitment, and careers in Engineering, Research & Development, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Robotics, Manufacturing, Civil Services, and Academia. With conceptual clarity, regular revision, mock tests, previous year paper practice, and a strong understanding of core subjects, candidates can achieve a high GATE score and advance their academic and professional careers.
